They’ve crossed party lines to come together. Five living former U.S. presidents, George Bush, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter have joined forces to raise money for Hurricane Harvey victims.
The campaign is called One America Appeal and it kicked off with a public service announcement that ran during the NFL’s season opener on Thursday night.
Ex-President George W. Bush, a resident of Dallas, says in the PSA, “People are hurting down here, but as one Texan put it, ‘We’ve got more love in Texas than water.”
As the country is going through one of the most divisive periods in history, the campaign is a rare showing of unity in U.S. politics. Donald Trump, who has frequently criticized his predecessors, even endorsed the effort with — what else — a tweet. Trump wrote Thursday night, “I’m proud to stand with Presidents for #OneAmericaAppel.” (The New York Times)
