Bunnell, FL – The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating vandalism that resulted in $1.3 million in damages to several pieces of heavy equipment.

Deputies responded on Tuesday, May 14, to a call from a job superintendent working near the Dollar General located at 5490 US Hwy 1 South in Bunnell. Five pieces of machinery were sunk in a pond created near the website. The superintendent explained that the water pump for the pond was vandalized, preventing it from pumping the groundwater, filling the hole overnight and flooding out the machinery.

The equipment damaged includes two CAT bulldozers, valued at $450,000 each, a CAT excavator, valued at $400,000 and a Bobcat Skid steer, valued at $60,000.

The superintendent told officers that only five people had the codes to run the machines. One of them was the lead man of the big machinery who had been fired last Friday. The superintendent told officers that he received screenshots of a photo posted on Facebook on Monday night, showing a CAT bulldozer sunk in the pond. In the text with the photo, “Karma is a b#*^%. Lol”

A search for nearby surveillance footage got negative results. The superintendent and the owner of Fulcrum Construction, who owns most of the damaged equipment, signed written statements, Both men also want to pursue criminal charges when a suspect is identified.
