Daytona Beach, FL – A mother of six in Daytona Beach is facing a slew of child neglect charges after officers learned her kids had been home alone for hours. The Daytona Beach Police Department says Ebony Williams will also face an additional charge of animal neglect because of a cat with a mangled leg that was also found in the home. Her arrest came on Monday (Jan. 31) after someone had called the police and told them Williams left her children, all under the age of 10, alone at home in a dirty house. When police made contact with Williams, she claimed she was at work and had asked someone to watch her children. But police found some inconsistencies in her story when she changed the name of the person that was supposed to be watching her kids, according to a report. Officers also noted in their report that the home was “in complete disarray and filthy.” The children were also found to be dirty and smelled of urine. One child wasn’t even wearing any clothes. One person told police that Williams leaves her kids alone often and her kids usually wake up the next day wearing the same clothes they had been wearing for days. She added that every time she babysits her children, she has to bathe her children because of the filth. While at the house, officers also found a cat with a mangled back leg. Williams told police she hit the cat with her car last summer and never took care of it. The cat was taken to a 24-hour animal hospital before it was handed over to Animal Control. That’s when Williams was additionally charged with animal neglect. Following her arrest, Williams was booked into the Volusia County Jail on a $17,500 bond. She was released on bond the next day. The Department of Children and Families took custody of Williams’ children. Their custody has since been handed over to someone else, according to police.
