The Volusia County government announced last week that they’d be participating in Operation Green Light for Veterans, an initiative designed to show appreciation for former armed service members in a unique and festive way. The event is observed in large numbers across the country, especially in Florida. Spanning from Monday, November 4th to the following Monday, November 11th, multiple participating buildings will be decorated with green lights to send a message to veterans that they are ‘seen, appreciated, and supported’. The locations which will be decorated include the Ocean Center Convention Center in Daytona Beach, plus the Historic Volusia County Courthouse and Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center in DeLand. “This is a time to salute and honor the service and sacrifices of our men and women in uniform,” said Veterans Services Director Bob Watson. “We encourage residents and businesses to shine a green light for our veterans too, and we urge veterans to schedule an appointment with a veterans services officer so we can help them receive all the benefits to which they are entitled.” The Volusia County government also encourages veterans to reach out the county’s veterans services office by calling (386) 740-5102, by going online to volusia.org/veterans, or by visiting one of the physical offices in DeLand, New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, and Deltona.
