Accused murderer Derruis Bauer on Tuesday rejected a plea deal that would’ve spared him life in prison. He now faces an uphill battle at trial that may well put him behind bars for life. Bauer was offered fifteen years in prison, with four having already been served, with a potential reduction to eight and a half years for good behavior. Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols attempted to convince Bauer to take the deal, but the defendant refused. According to reports from law enforcement, Bauer was present for the close-range shooting that killed Deon Jenkins at a Palm Coast Circle K gas station in October 2019. His friend Marcus Chamblin, who was said to have pulled the trigger, was sentenced to life in prison. If Bauer is acquitted on his first degree murder charge, he’d still face charges of attempted second-degree murder and being a principal to murder, which would land him in prison for 30 or more years. Bauer’s trial was initially scheduled for April, but was postponed until later this year due to an ongoing health concern with his defense attorney, Wayne Henderson.
