The Volusia County government will be holding a beach cleanup on Tuesday, May 27th. The event is scheduled for the day after Memorial Day, when the beach is expected to take on a significant amount of waste from holiday beach activity. The ‘Keep Volusia Beautiful Post-Memorial Day Cleanup’ is scheduled to begin at 8:00 am and go on until 10:00 am. The annual cleanup event gives residents the opportunity to volunteer their time in order to help keep their city spaces clean, their ecosystems safe for all flora and fauna, and their local environments healthy. The location of the annual cleanup rotates each year, focusing efforts on a different locale within Volusia County. This year, organizers have chosen to hold the event in Ponce Inlet. The meetup location will be at 4589 S. Atlantic Ave, about three and a half miles south of Dunlawton Boulevard. Those who attend the cleanup will be provided trash bags and gloves in order to gather beach trash. Residents who plan on attending to participate are asked to RSVP by emailing lwalter@volusia.org. Though an RSVP is not required, county officials say it will help organizers know the right quantity of supplies to bring to accommodate everyone.
