The New Smyrna Beach Police Department are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred Tuesday monring. According to a statement released by the NSBPD, a 61-year-old woman is believed to have killed herself and her domestic partner. The incident began when a woman from outside Florida called the NSBPD saying she’d had an alarming conversation with a woman she knew in New Smyrna Beach. That woman, she told police, had informed her she was going to kill her boyfriend and then herself. Police officers were dispatched to the residence of the woman in question. The NSBPD said that while officers were trying to make contact, the woman inside took her own life. Thankfully no officers were injured. The NSBPD then requested that the South Daytona Police Department respond to the scene to conduct a welfare check on another residence where the woman’s partner was believed to live. They performed the check, finding the 62-year-old occupant dead. Now the NSBPD is investigating the suicide of the woman who died in New Smyrna Beach, while the SDPD is investigating the death in South Daytona as a homicide. The two agencies are working in tandem with one another due to the apparent connection between the two deaths. Both parties’ identities are being withheld as of Tuesday afternoon while next-of-kin are notified.
