Flagler County Commission Chair Andy Dance was appointed to positions of leadership within two state organizations this week, the county government announced Monday. Dance will be serving on the Executive Committee of the Small County Coalition of Florida (SCCF) and the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC). “As a commissioner, I’ve always been committed to ensuring that our county’s voice is heard in Tallahassee and beyond,” Dance said. “These new roles will allow me to influence policies and funding decisions that directly impact our community – particularly in the important areas of infrastructure, public safety, education, home rule, and coastal resiliency.” The Function of the SCCF and FAC On the SCCF, Dance will represent Region 3, which is composed of eight counties: Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Union, Baker, Nassau, Flagler, and Putnam. Flagler’s most recent county commissioner to have a seat at the SCCF was former Commissioner David Sullivan. The SCCF brings together Florida counties with populations under 200,000 (Flagler sits at an estimated 140,801 as of 2025) to cooperate with the goal of obtaining state funding, maintaining representation in the legislature, and sharing notes on similar challenges. On the FAC, Dance has been chosen to represent District 7. The districts for the FAC are aligned with the Florida Senate’s districts, meaning Dance’s area covers all of Flagler, Putnam, and St. Johns counties plus a portion of Volusia County. He serves alongside 39 other members, one from each Senate district. The FAC’s function is similar to that of SCCF, but in a manner which brings all 67 counties in Florida to the table. “This reflects a growing recognition of Flagler County’s leadership on statewide issues, particularly in coastal management, resilient infrastructure, and preserving home rule,” Dance continued. “It’s an honor to represent Flagler County and collaborate with state leaders on policies that directly impact our community.”
