The Volusia County government is hosting a seminar for prospective and current small business owners centered around legal strategy. The Acuity Business Pass seminar will be held on Tuesday to educate about the legal hurdles to becoming an established and successful business owner. The event will be taking place on Tuesday, August 5th from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. It will be located at the DeLand Regional Library at 130 East Howry Ave. The speaker will be a representative from SCORE, the organization originally known as the Service Corps of Retired Executives. Organizing the event in collaboration with one another are two county departments: Economic Development and Library Services. According to a release from the county government, the seminar will inform on how to make the legal process of business less overwhelming. Instead of confronting each and every barrier at once, it will explain how to take the steps one at a time. Those looking to attend are encouraged to pre-register, the county said. Details are available at the program’s website. More information can be found by contacting Volusia County Economic Development Business Specialist Heather Edwards at hedwards@volusia.org or by calling (386) 248-8048. The Acuity Business Pass program was awarded the Best Library Business Program in Florida by the Florida Library Association in its 2025 awards ceremony. They praised how the program “innovatively merges the library system’s databases, print/online/facility resources, and vast expertise as a reliable information hub with Volusia County Economic Development Division’s expansive networking capabilities and access to an enormity of local business subject experts to create a dedicated small business library card and services platform, free of charge”.
