The Volusia Sheriff’s Office arrested 56-year-old Jeffrey Love this week on several felony charges, alleging he scammed customers out of over $200,000. Love, who the VSO calls a ‘fraudulent boat builder’, was reportedly commissioned to build multiple custom airboats. According to the VSO’s description of their investigation, Love scammed five different individuals by agreeing to a job and then stalling instead of completing the work. He’s said to have given excuses to these customers about why he hadn’t fulfilled their orders. Love was investigated by the VSO for nine months over his alleged scam tactics. It’s not the first time he’s been caught up in accusations like these – the VSO says that Love has been arrested before for ‘a nearly identical scam’. The agency did not specify which jurisdiction this occurred in. On Tuesday Love was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on no bond. He’s been charged with grand theft over $100,000, organized scheme to defraud over $50,000, driving with a suspended, canceled, or revoked license, and two counts of violation of probation. As of Thursday afternoon Love remains in custody.
