A small plane crashed in New Smyrna Beach on Thursday at around 10:51 a.m., the Volusia Sheriff’s Office says. The plane was flying a banner, and was photographed upside down in the surf after coming to a stop. Fortunately the plane’s pilot did not sustain life-threatening injuries, the VSO says. There were no other individuals in the plane at the time of the crash. The pilot was able to climb out of the plane under his own power, according to witnesses who saw the craft go down. The plane crashed into the water, and no other individuals were injured or involved in the incident. According to Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood, the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have both been notified of the incident. These two agencies will investigate to discover what caused the crash. Any additional details on the incident will be added to this and/or subsequent reports as they’re made available.
