One man was injured on Saturday after being hit by a Jeep on the beach in Ormond Beach, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office announced this week. The victim, a 33-year-old Ocala resident, was reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the VSO’s summary of the incident, the victim was sunbathing near the Cardinal Drive beach ramp at around 10:43 am on Saturday. A 61-year-old Ormond Beach resident driving a Jeep had reportedly driven outside the travel lanes in the process of trying to back into a parking spot. In doing so, she’s said to have run the man over. The man reportedly sustained injuries to his thigh and arm in the incident. He was taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries that were said to not be life-threatening. He was said by the VSO to be in stable condition. The woman driving the Jeep remained on-scene to cooperate with emergency responders and law enforcement. According to the VSO, she exhibited no signs of impairment. She was cited for careless driving for her role in the incident. Further details in the case are pending an active and ongoing crash investigation.
