A judge has allowed 20-year-old Anne Mae Demegillo to have a bond in her case involving the alleged killing of her newborn son. Demegillo, who’s been in custody since March 6, will have $250,000 as set by Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols on Thursday. According to law enforcement, Demegillo gave birth unexpectedly last Thursday at her residence on Florida Park Drive in Palm Coast. Another individual reported to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office that Demegillo had allowed the baby to die and buried it in her backyard. Prosecutors on Monday motioned for a court order denying Demegillo’s release while the case plays out. In the motion, Assistant State Attorney Andrew Urbanak argued that given Demegillo’s charges, ‘there are no reasonable conditions of release that can protect the community from harm’ if she posted bond and was released. Demegillo was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and arrested the day after the incident. According to police, she intentionally allowed the infant to die before carrying on with her day and attending a theater performance in New Smyrna Beach. In the hours leading up to the birth Demegillo was unaware she was pregnant, she told law enforcement. She reportedly said that she was suffering severe abdominal pain before giving birth into a toilet. The baby’s head was partially submerged in toilet water, Demegillo’s arrest report states, and she’s said to have waited for the crying and movement to stop. Demegillo told law enforcement that once she believed the infant was deceased, she wrapped it in a towel and placed it in a duffel bag. After returning home from the show in New Smyrna Beach, she buried the baby at around 11:00 p.m. As part of the conditions of Demegillo’s bond, she is not to have contact with the individual who reported her to the FCSO. She’s being represented by local defense attorney Michael J. Politis, court records show.
