Frank Rendon Park is reopening to the public on Tuesday, March 31, the Volusia County government announced last week. The park in Daytona Beach Shores underwent significant repairs and renovations after taking damage from hurricanes Ian and Nicole in October and November 2022. The Daytona Beach Shores park was initially reopened a short time after the two hurricanes came through. At that point limited amenities were available due to the damage. By August 2025, the park was completely closed so that a complete restoration could be completed and residents could enjoy it to its fullest. According to the county government, a newly constructed seawall has been built to replace the previous one which was taken out by the 2022 hurricanes. Permanent granite stone revetment has been reinstalled on the southern side of the park, helping to safeguard it from future hurricanes and their ensuing storm surge. Beach access will be available once again at Frank Rendon Park, with newly rebuilt dune walkovers and a second staircase at the park’s southern access points. The dune walkover is accessible for ADA visitors, the county said. Two pavilions that were damaged in the hurricanes have been restored, providing a shaded area for picnics and other public gatherings. The Volusia County government will be accepting reservations of these pavilions starting on Monday, April 6 through their website. Only one amenity at Frank Rendon Park will remain unavailable as of Tuesday’s reopening: the playground. The county says it will remain under construction due to foundational damage sustained during October’s nor’easter storm. The playground is expected to be ready for reopening by Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10.
